CEP – UNIFORMS – MULTI-FUNCTIONAL CLOTHING INCORPORATING COMFORT / ERGONOMY / PROTECTION

01-09-2013 a 30-06-2015

The project CEP (NSRF Project No. 2014/38320), sponsored by AFF (A. Ferreira & Sons, SA, Portugal), is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) through the National Strategic Reference Framework (QREN).

This R&D project, sponsored by AFF in collaboration with Fibrenamics Platform from University of Minho, aimed to carry out research and development activities that could achieve the necessary knowledge to create a multilayer structure in an innovative weft knitted fabric, designed to perform various functions. Thus, it aimed the development of two functional layers products:
– Layer in contact with the skin: providing comfort through thermoregulation, moisture management, breathability, among other relevant properties;
– Outer layer: protection against cutting and/or puncture, through the use of auxetic knitted structures in combination with high tenacity fibrous materials.

The project has developed a prototype of a sweater with a weft knitted based structure with cut and puncture resistance properties. The sweater meets specific standard EN388 that define the regulations for materials with resistance to cutting and puncture properties.
